Three decades ago, at the general conference of World Assembly of Small & Medium Entrepreneurs held in New Delhi, the creation of an international forum for promotion and development of self-employment and entrepreneurship amongst women was central on the agenda. Informal discussions with the leaders of women entrepreneurs in different parts of the world collectively agreed the need to primarily address itself to the urges, aspirations, expectations and self requirements of women entrepreneurs and self employed women.
The first foundation meeting of International Federation of Women Entrepreneurs (IFWE) was held in Karachi, Pakistan on 29th January 1994, followed by second meeting in Addis Ababa, Euthopia on the 8th March, 1994, along MALAYSIA have decided to form its own chapter in 2007.
The organization was formerly under the governance of the World Association Small Medium Enterprise or (WASME) which worked closely with the UNDP. Its first registered office was in New Delhi and now moved to Jakarta, Indonesia under the leadership of its President, Madam Dr Dewi Motik Pramono.
Foster, promote and coordinate cooperation amongst women at the national, regional and international level to promote entrepreneurship and self- employment amongst women by pooling their creative genius.
Seek cooperation, assistance and support of all concerned governmental and non-governmental agencies at multilateral and bilateral level, donor agencies and other appropriate institutions towards promoting the objectives of IWEM.
Collect, collate, disseminate and to evaluate the shortcomings of women entrepreneurs, both locally and internationally.
Share information about the development of women entrepreneurship, locally and globally towards improving their statusĀ economically and financially.
Encourage and facilitate greater technical, industrial, social and economic cooperation and understanding amongst women entrepreneurs through transfer of technology, technical information, human resource development, trade facilitation, research and development.
To develop appropriate mechanism to enlarge interaction amongst women entrepreneurs and its organizations in different region and countries and provide a platform for women entrepreneurs to strategise and strengthen the business relationship.
